Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
